Arla and UK retailers partner to reduce carbon emissions in the milk supply chain.
Asda, aldi, morrisons and Starbucks have all signed up to Arla UK’s Customer Sustainability Program. They will all invest into the program to support the cooperatives efforts to reduce missions on-farm. This will provide the retailers with the opportunity to reduce their scope 3 emissions faster and also improve the accuracy of the reporting according to the UK division of Arla.
This is on top of Arlas current pledge to spend €500m a year to reward and motivate farmers to reduce their emissions.
The Customer Sustainability Program partnership comprises of one billion litres of milk from farmer-owners who have signed up to the climate check data programme. Arla said that projects will be running with these customers and the associated farmers to look at reducing on-farm emissions with new innovations and research that includes feed additives, fertiliser use, herd genetics, biodiversity.
