An interview with Michael...
What is the earliest ambition you can remember?
To be a professional singer.
Did you go to a state or private school? Did you go to University or straight into work?
Private school then university.
Who is your idol?
Never had one - never tried to be like anyone else - foolish of me maybe!
Who is your mentor?
Yet again, can't say anyone has consciously mentored me. Perhaps I didn't notice!
How physically fit are you?
Sore point. Regular yoga helps greatly but definitely need more aerobic exercise, unless chasing the dog round the garden counts.
Which leads to greater success, hard work or ability?
Ideally a mixture of both, but you really need ability to be in there somewhere. Hard work on its own can get you only so far.
What is your IQ?
Which famous person are you most like?
Don't want to be like any famous person.
If you could see any musician live - whether alive or dead - who would it be?
Beethoven - pure revolutionary genius.
Do you consider your carbon footprint?
I try to - once sold a Range Rover and bought a Smart Car instead, so my carbon footprint plummeted overnight.
What was the first car you owned?
Triumph Vitesse - the roof leaked and in the end it had no chassis at all, just a pure lump of rust holding it together. Loved it though.
What's your biggest extravagance?
Turning left on a plane on long trips to the Far East or the west coast of the US.
How politically committed are you?
I still shout at politicians on the TV - does that count?
Name one skill you don't possess that you wish you did?
To be a stylish dancer would be great...I'm really not!
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
Comic book nonsense. We have to live within our real powers and do the very best we can.
Do you have more than one home?
You're going to be stranded on a desert island and can take only three things with you - what would they be?
My dog, my Kindle and access to Amazon.
If you could own one thing that you don't currently possess, what would it be?
Many things, but in reality they don't matter, do they?
What and where is the best restaurant you've ever eaten in?
Per Se in New York City.
What keeps you going every day?
What is your greatest achievement to date?
The truly great ones are still to come hopefully.
What has been your greatest disappointment?
Fortunately there haven't been any "great" disappointments....so far.
If a movie were made about your life so far, who would take the lead role as you?
Me obviously - there is latent acting talent in there somewhere.
If someone wrote a biography about you, what would the title be?
No-one ever will thankfully, but could be Mr Red Pen.
What was the last book you read?
Jumped on the Jo Nesbo bandwagon and yes they are very good.
What would your 20 year old self say to you now?
Salt and pepper hair suits you, old man!
What ambitions do you still have?
So many places left on my bucket list of travel ambitions.
If you lost everything tomorrow, what would you do?
Accept the support I know my friends would offer.
If you had to rate your satisfaction with your life so far out of 10, what would your score be?
9/10. Enjoy and make the most of every moment you have, but leave just a little for wonderful surprises.
