SK Chilled Foods Creating New Roles
SK Chilled Foods is undergoing a recruitment drive to bring in around 30 new employees to the company. The positions will be based at their sites in South Bank and Riverside, both in Middlesbrough.
The company has just seen the most successful year in their history, including a very busy period over Christmas and the New Year. They produced over 30 million pieces of food for their party range, in addition to their core year-round products. As a result, they are now initiating a recruitment drive to expand their current team and improve their production capacity.
The company has also completed work on an extension recently. Adding 5,188 square feet to one of their production sites, it came at a cost of £1.7 million.
The roles include engineers, quality auditors, and managers – you can also browse similar roles here.
“We are coming off the back of our most successful year in our 30-year history and, in order to keep up with the demand for our products, we are investing in new infrastructure and staff,” said Jeremy Faulkner, the Managing Director of SK Chilled Foods. “The work we recently completed to our South Bank site has further increased the size of that facility, enabling us to add greater capacity for our cooked fillings, sauces and baked products. It has also provided a new open-plan office space and tasting suite, where we sample the products to ensure they meet our exacting standards. This expansion means we are in the nice position of being able to create 30 new jobs for local people; jobs which are very varied and will cement our position as one of the largest employers in Teesside.”
SK Chilled Foods is a manufacturer of ethnic snacks and accompaniments, as well as own-label party food for the biggest supermarkets in the UK. They also supply foodservice companies and restaurant chains directly. This model is clearly working for them, despite resulting in less brand recognition with the public – they are becoming trusted amongst their customers to produce items that they can claim as their own.
They were recipients of two prizes at the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards recently – the Chilled, Fresh & Dairy Manufacturing Company of the Year and Partnership of the Year. These two awards were given in recognition of the fact that the company has undertaken some serious technological innovation, allowing them to make record sales throughout 2018.
“We employ 735 staff and every single member of our team plays a crucial part in SK Chilled Foods being one of the leaders in the UK chilled foods manufacturing industry,” added Faulkner. “We’re already well into the planning our ranges for 2019, including Christmas, and we’re hoping that, with the extra investment in our facilities and staff, this year will be even better for SK.”
The outlook certainly seems good, and candidates who are interested in working for a stable and growing company should go over our advice here for a successful job application. It’s important to get every stage of the process right, from sending that first CV and cover letter right through to the final interview, in order to work for a company with this level of prestige.
There are sure to be further opportunities to work for the company in the future, as this will not be their last round of expansions according to the current outlook. Indeed, we can predict further possibilities in the future as they look forward to a successful 2019 and beyond, building on the strides forward they made in 2018.
