Typical roles within the Food division include Product Developer, Food Technologist and Buyer.
As Product Developer at M&S you must have a genuine passion for food and unquestionable knowledge of it. To succeed in this role, you need to be ahead of the latest food trends, be highly creative with a positive attitude. Working within your product category, you will manage a range of new product development (NPD) projects to deliver the latest products to the shelves. You will need to be persuasive with bags of charisma, organisational skills and resilience. This is a truly exciting role working with some of the best talent in NPD.
As Food Technologist at M&S you will work closely with suppliers to ensure all products meet stringent quality and safety standards. You will get involved in the latest innovation projects, ensuring new products are technically safe with the correct specifications written. Calm in a crisis, you should be supportive and approachable with the courage to challenge and escalate issues when required. Working in a first-class team of technical professionals, you will get the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of projects to further develop your expertise. To succeed in this role you will need a food technology/science degree and be able to apply your knowledge in a commercially aware way. A love of food and the latest trends is also required.
Buyer’s at M&S need to be commercially astute with the ability to forge strong, collaborative relationships with suppliers. You will work closely across the business with developers and technologists within your product category as well as the teams responsible for product ranging, space planning, marketing and supply chain. To succeed in this role you will need excellent negotiation skills and the ability to work on long-term strategic plans to achieve targets. You will be highly organised, structured and analytical.
