Hotel Chocolat founders have agreed a takeover with Mars. Mars will take over the business and have agreed to keep production in the UK.
The founders are set to make £280m after an agreed take over of £534m. After the deal was announce shares increased by 160%.
Mars currently employs over 140,000 people around the world with 7% of those being based in the UK. Hotel Chocolat currently has 131 stores in the UK, 21 in Japan and 1 on St Lucia.
Angus Thirwell, one of the founding directors, will reside with the new business as the Chief Executive while Peter Harris will retire.
