The last two years have been awful for all of us, not least hospitality. Whilst we're enjoying a period of recovery, there is still apprehension for most of us within the sector. But here we have an opportunity that is almost a job for life! No exaggeration, its an institution that has been in existence for more than 150 years.

It continues to grow with its captive customer base, moving with the times, whilst retaining its heritage and core values. It's a college within the University of Cambridge looking to take on a new Head of Catering.

Due to retirement after 30 years there is now an opening for a new Head of Catering. Someone to carry the torch, and also bring with them their own ideas and style to make this position their own for maybe the next 30 years too.

  • c.850 residents/fellows/customers on site daily
  • Over 22 catering events annually in addition to the daily residential dining
  • 30 permanent team members, with additional casual catering staff for larger events
  • Up to 500 covers daily
  • Dining capacity for 240

  • Consortium software programmes for supply chain and procurement

  • Casual Grab and Go food outlet to formal dinners

They have catering facilities for food on the move, casual dining, conferences, and fine dining, plus weddings, drink receptions and outside events hosted throughout the beautiful Victorian architecture and its 50+ acres. The historical reverence is self-evident as you journey through the gardens, halls and corridors of this revolutionary establishment. And, as the first all Women's college in 1869, then mixed from 1946 - they have never been one to simply follow the crowd.

Ground-breaking and trailblazing - that's how you would view this facility next to its more traditional contemporaries. We want that from you too, as its next Head of Catering!

There is scope to bring your own objectives and ideas here, and your career to date within a managerial role in hospitality, will illustrate creativity and commercial acumen.

Whilst the institution is steeped in history, the mindset is very contemporary. The Catering Department accommodates a range of culinary considerations for religious, health and sustainability needs. They have an open and constructive dialogue with internal stakeholders and work collaboratively in delivering services that meet a range of needs within the college, through a superb supplier base.

In this position you will have a direct line to the Junior Bursar who will work with you in establishing operational budgets and infrastructure investment. You, in turn, will report and manage not just the on-going operations but the Continuous Improvement of the facilities on site as you work with your FOH and BOH teams daily.

Having recently invested in an all-electric kitchen, new social hub and the cafeteria, plans continue at pace to develop the Catering Department. You will be integral to this.
