Job security and promotional opportunities are more important than ever within the food industry. This position presents plenty of this.
Becoming a Development Chef isn’t as straightforward as applying for a Chef role in a busy restaurant. That’s never been truer than now, as restaurants, hotels and contract catering venues scream out for Chefs. The pandemic has changed so much for so many, but no qualified Chef should be out of work right now. The question is are you in the right role? Has your current position got the legs and capability to catapult your career?
A Development Chef position within food manufacturing has many advantages. However, it’s not simply a case of cushier hours, getting your weekends back again. It goes deeper. No longer just cooking for a captive audience in a limited space venue, here you’re preparing meals and food products for every customer in the UK.
With that comes plenty of research, trial and error, and decision by committee. The processes are longer, but the reward of having your food ideas on the shelves of the nation’s biggest retailers is a genuine achievement and thrill.
It’s true, the benefits are great and the options of having a long and fruitful career are not exaggerated. Some of the most senior food innovators, with food in almost every home in the UK, began as Junior Development Chefs for manufacturers.
This business is looking for a new Development Chef. They are a global player with sites over three continents and most of their manufacturing locations are dotted throughout the UK. As they’re feeding the nation through major retailers such as M&S, Tesco, ASDA, Morrison’s, Waitrose and J. Sainsbury's, they require creative culinary professionals who can use various skills and knowledge. Is that you?
Whilst it’s an entry level role, it presents a long-term career plan from a solid foundation, where you will already be or have…
- Working as a Chef De Partie for at least two years at a high standard
- Working with fresh produce and local ingredients that have been cared for and considered carefully
- Working knowledge of a variety of cuisines
- A genuine interest in food trends and the latest culinary ideas being tested
- An ability to communicate ideas clearly. Having others hear your message and food beliefs
You may well retire in years to come, wearing a shirt and blazer jacket rather than a Chef jacket. But it all starts here as a Chef, working with the foundations of great ingredients making food items enjoyed for years.
This particular food category has health, and the environment at its core. Never has there been a more relevant category of food in the consumer psyche.
Real succession planning is on offer for you, if your culinary skills are up to standard and you have a broad knowledge of food, coupled with the ability to speak honestly, passionately, and with expertise when it comes to your ideas.
If that sounds like you and you’re ready for the next step, then I want to hear from you ASAP. Send your CV with your highlights and achievements clearly stated for immediate consideration.
