What do Father Christmas and this new Development Chef role have in common?
Both offer something to look forward to at the end of a glum 2020, delivering real hope and incredible surprises. The major difference though - you’ve got to be more than just nice with a fanciful wish list to get the Chef job.
There hasn’t been much to cheer about in 2020. But 2021 is about to take over, and the future looks much brighter. Especially if you’re working within creative food design. We believe there will be a bounce in hospitality and this role is proving that there’s a hunger and desire from the F&B world to grow and get better as we emerge from this pandemic.
Our client is a creative foodservice consultancy, that works with some of the biggest restaurant chains and freshest challenger brands in the UK’s hospitality sector. They provide innovations and commercial strategies to brand new restaurants through to multi-site brands looking for a competitive edge. We’ve an opportunity for a Development Chef to join them at crucial time.
They’re growing, quickly, thus they have a need for someone who knows what it is to work with multi-site venues, within pressure kitchen environments where footfall and covers are high. Experience within QSRs, Casual Dining and Branded Chains, developing menus and training manuals will be important here. But, as important is the ability to know what’s next; The trends within hospitality, retail and global food markets. Knowing what’s coming in hot from street vendors to international food trends, is key.
You’ll design menus, create presentations, delivering them to an expectant audience. Delivering training to external teams on what will be the key driving force behind their restaurants’ evolution. Being organised and on-point with your time management will be crucial as you prepare presentations and workshops, so computer skills are required please.
Travel’s involved too. You’ll stay away the odd month as you work on site with clients. Working in development kitchens, supplier’s sites, and offices. Honestly, no two days will be the same. You’ve heard that a million times, but it could not be truer here. You’ll have numerous projects on the go at any one time… some will be at the briefing stage whilst others are about to go live. You’ll be kept on your toes.
Being presentable too. We don’t discriminate on appearance, but you need to be able to scrub up well, as you stand in front of your clients, taking them on a commercial culinary journey – like your plate – well polished please.
If you’re a Development Chef who prefers stability, a structured and methodical diary over the year, sorry, you’ve wasted your time reading this far. BUT, if you enjoy a fast pace, the thrill of the design challenge and the opportunity to ditch the chef whites for shirt and jeans now and again, as you problem solve left right and centre, then this could be you headed into 2021.
