Interviews and Testing

We have outlined information and advice to support you in the recruitment process.

Preparation

It is essential you have taken time to do your prep.
If there is a presentation, take time to get it right. All obvious stuff but too often feedback and rejection is related to a lack of research. Think about 3 key areas:

You - What are the key areas of your background experience, skills and achievements you want to present and demonstrate?

The Company - Company research will get you info, be prepared to ask questions to get insight. Will this be a positive culture and organisation for you and your career?

The Interview - Understand the process, the recruitment methods being used and time lines and time scales. Assessment centre? values interview? Competency interview? Presentation required? A chat over a cup of tea? Dinner out? Understand the format and the objectives.

Focus will support you in the selection process. We will spend a lot of time, working with you to make sure you are prepared and knowledgeable before attending any interview. We will re-brief and support you at every stage of the process.

Verbal, Numerical and Psychometric Assessment

There are a large range of online and face to face assessment tools to understand you in different ways.
We are well versed with the majority of testing providers and will be able to direct you to many partner companies to allow you to practise the tests or understand more about them and why they are used, before undertaking them. See the below link for some general practice examples.

Interview questions

We’ve heard, asked and been regaled a wide array of questions form the interviews we have facilitated.

What is key is you need to be clear, accurate and give evidence that allows the interviewer to make a decision about your ability to perform the role.

Sounds simple, but so often, a lack of preparations means points are missed or badly presented.

Focus will help you when interviews are organised and talk through the approach and style that you will face at interview. We will not give you the questions, or the answers.

Interview questions require direct and thorough answers. Whilst they provide insight into your experience, they also test your ability to get straight to the point!

The Focus Process

Briefing Call

We will diarise a briefing call with you before you attend the interview. We find that candidates that make time for this perform better consequently, this will be up to an hour. We will discuss the brief and company, nuances of the process, who you’ll meet and their expectations.

Feedback

We want to keep the process moving so following your interview we will have a call to find out how it went and ask for your feedback. We also do this with our clients and will then update you with next steps.

Cancellations

If you are unable to attend for any reason please call and we will reschedule the interview for a date and time to suit both you and the client. We also understand that sometimes things change and people have second thoughts, please do let us know.
